Leave Comments On OVN Polls

This blog is for commenting on the OVN online poll question.

  1. I like your Ojai poll about Michael Phelphs decision to smoke Marijuana. I could vote good or bad thing though. It depends. Did Michael Phelphs smoke Mexican? Or did he smoke somebodys homegrown? When I say Mexican its not a put down to Mexicans in general, its because drug cartels are ruining Mexico and they are coming here and growing it here and using pesticides. I don't smoke pot and I don't grow it but I think it should be legal to grow one plant for personal consumption. As for him doing drugs, well at least they werent performance enhancing drugs, I would like to see him try to swim fast on pot, now that would be a joke.

  2. What was he thinkin? It's not that big of a deal, except KIDS :LOOK UP TO HIM, and A-Rod, and Bonds, and McGuire, and ..............

  3. Yeah, thanks to those guys I don't watch baseball. It would be different if they had their own teams, the steroid teams, and were upfront and just decided anyone could take steroids.. then we would know who the best of the best of steroid takers were. It sucks if one guy is sneaking performance enhancing drugs to get an edge on the others.

  4. I don't think the OVN should play police and make sex offenders weekly news. Its too much of a downer and besides , you can see where sex offenders are in your neighborhood on the internet. If it gets to the point where the OVN is writing about sex offenders every week,, I seriously doubt how good that will be for our little economy. Just leave it to the pros. I don't mean put a lid on it, just dont put it in the OVN.

  5. GREAT POLL OVN!!!!
I HOPE they reopen the bowling alley! LETS ALL PLEDGE TO DO THIS! Even if it takes donations!! YES WE CAN!!!!!

I worked there as a machine tec. back in the 70s

  8. We need the cop at Nordhoff. It just feels safer knowing weren't completely defenseless if something were to happen. But, even if we don't have a cop I'll still feel pretty safe at school. I'm not worried about any of my classmates I just think it would be a good precaution.

  9. Who is Adam or Chris Lambert? What is American Idol? Oh well, I guess I will vote anyway. I will just take a stab at it. COMEon! Can't you come up with a better question than that?

  10. The quality of the education kids can get here in Ojai is excellent. Its up to the parents to make sure their kids get the most out of what the schools have to offer. Parents have to do their part to make sure kids do their homework and don't party past 10 oclock on the weekends. Parents don't let your teenagers drink alcohol. What might seem like balm to you is POISON to your kids brains. Don't let them smoke pot either. All you have to do is guide them right and try to be as interested in their schooling as possible. Its only 18 years! Then you can cut them loose and be proud of them.

  11. Since Earth Friend Gen doesn't need her clothes, let's take them all away and give them to people who do need them. We can also pass a law prohibiting her from ever wearing clothes again inside Ojai's city limits.

  12. I was just wondering, what would happen if we all decided to go naked on the fourth of July? Including the kids. To Earth Friend Jen, I would ask, is that a good idea? Would it be a good idea for little kids to be in public with all kinds of adult people naked? Shes a hypocrite if she says not a good idea, shes an idiot if she thinks its healthy for all people to be naked together. Since the parade is an attraction for familys and kids, I don't believe this a good venue for her naked parading. Its not right for her to force herself on all of us. Instead why dosen't she ask for a permit for a section of Libbey Park where she can run an all day peep show for those that want to see her? I don't have an issue with the people that want to see her naked, personally I just don't and I know I am not alone.

We'd almost all get really bad sunburns. Including the kids.

  14. I will not be anonymous at all. My Name is Randy Hayes. I used to live in Ojai, for over 18years in fact. I still have a relative there so I visit often. I am sickened every time I come back. What the hell has happened to Ojai? This stupid amoral woman riding around with her breasts hanging out. What ever happened to indecent exposure? What happened to people standing up for their rights?

When I drive through town on Saturday mornings, I see illegal aliens standing in front of Chaparral school, looking for "work". I am told that if a woman tries to walk through this crowd, chances are, if she is pretty, that she will be harassed and maybe even propositioned.
I have been told that some of these "people" urinate on the walkway. Where are the police?

This really sad. The Ojai I lived in five years ago would had a backbone. The one that exists now does not value it's children, it's women, or
have any pride left at all. Both of the aforementioned circumstances prove this.

    Former resident,

    Randy Hayes.

  15. I will not be anonymous either, My name is Mannix. I have lived in Ojai my whole life. I think the naked woman Earth Friend Jen or "Dos Estrellas" they call her on the workers row should have her own special store where people can go to see her if they want to. If she is allowed to go naked in front of the public then men should be able to display a full fruit basket as well. Naked is naked it means no clothes. Ojai dosen't discriminate , everyone has the same rights here.

  16. Susan Atkins has done a lot to change her life around in her years in prison. She's been a good role model for the other inmates and from what I read she's worked hard to help others there. I still don't think that should give her a pass. Bottom line , she got lucky to go to jail instead of the gas chamber.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I voted to let her go. She should have gotten the death penalty, but she didn't, so why should the taxpayers provide her meals, shelter and medical care now when she is not going to do anyone any more harm? Being in jail is a benefit to her at this point. The sales tax and all the other taxes make everyone tax payers whether you file a 1040 or not.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Atkins, like all other formerly "proud" "Daughters and Sons of Charlie," should be denied parole every time she or they come up for it---for the sake of the families of their victims, who were ALREADY denied "justice" when their death sentences were overturned. I don't care one whit about Tex Watson's becoming a Christian (what else is there to do in prison... besides making it big in a gang and/or learning how to be a better criminal?, Atkins' terminal illness, etc. "Reform" might be possible for thieves, drug dealers, vandals, tax evaders and certain high profile/priced defense attorneys, but NEVER for pedophiles and "thrill murderers." And while it's true I'm loathe to subsidize Atkins' and her ilk's "three hots and a cot" for time immemorial, until this state starts executing DNA-proven and/or CONFESSED thrill murderers, et al., on a TIMELY basis, it's just one more thing wrong with California we'll have to live with.

  20. Charlie Sheen?
I don't loose interest if they are standing up against the rising tide they get more respect from me.
Here's a poll : should we demand obama open a new investigation about 9/11??
9/11 was an inside job you can't hide the truth forever.
    Thank you Charlie Sheen

  21. I agree, while most celebrities that are obnoxious for the sake of being noticed are well, obnoxious, before I lose interest in a celebrity I first pay attention to what they are saying. I can't help it because they are celebritys I listen once. The actual initial behaviour of the celebrity interests me so I would have to say I gain interest. However I may quickly loose interest if I find out the celebrity is promoting something rediculous like Scientology.. but even still , initially I have gained interest thus bringing the celebrity into the limelight even for a micro minute. Unfortunetly some celebrities live for that micro minute of notoriety, thats all they ever ask for and because they are celebrities they get it.

  22. The question you ask of us Ojains is whether more troops will make us safer or not. I feel like, so important now because you want my opinion on such an crucial matter of something that absolutely I know nothing about. I tell you one thing , I trust Obama on this issue way more than I ever trusted Bush and Donald Rumsfeld.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Its the same thing, sorry to say you're trust is misplaced.
Looks to me like obama has out done bush in the spending, dhs, domestic spying and destroying whats left of our civil rights.

  24. Sorry , I disagree with you 100% . Sorry your candidate didn't win, sorry, I have no interest in watching your youtube links that provide your "proof" as having found you tube to be a dubious source of information. In fact for your information you can go to youtube, (you will love this) and you can watch and read about the ray gun from outerspace that brought down the WTC on 9/11. In my opinion, Obama is doing a great job. I'm not a liberal but I approve of the job he is doing for what he was stuck with.
    Go OBAMA!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Tell you what, I will keep posting info I feel is need to know information, if you don't like it, don't go to it.
As far as my "proof" the local, state police and military are doing security for the G20 meeting locking down the city, and Penn State was overtaken, kids were gassed with tear gas hit with batons and assaulted by nwo goons.
I did not post the ray gun(yes I have seen it on yt)as it has nothing to do with what is going on.
Maybe you missed the presidents address, you know Ronold Reagan and the "star wars" weapons program S.D.I.
It is real but had nothing to do with 9/11.
As far as the ray gun hitting the towers that is clearly BS, and I 100% agree with you on that.
I also agree Obama is doing a great job, just at spending what we don't have to get what we don't need.
Do you really believe 19 hijackers in contact with a guy in a cave coordinating a massive attack on America with box cutters and 747's all because they hate our freedoms??
Even if you believe they just got very very very very lucky, no one got jail, prison or even lost their job, and that's okay with you?
An now Iran has nukes aka "wmd's" and here we go again so Iraq,Afghanistan,Syria,Africa,Germany and now Iran all hate our freedom?
And that is progress to you?
Do you really believe a fuel tank and falling debris brought down wtc 7?
Do you really believe kerosene and fire brought down the first two towers?
How did they find all the hijackers passports after the crashes that destroyed three buildings with two planes?
Do you really believe printing more money(what the fed is doing now)will help in any way?
Can you charge your way out of debt, will you're bank just keep lending you money over and over even if you can never pay it back?
Our forefathers warned us about the military industrial complex and the money changers(banks).

For the record I am giving my opinion and only my opinion.
I offer my opinion as is.
    http://whatreallyhappened.com/WRHARTICLES/hijackers.html?q=hijackers.html

The fact you get angry when I exercise my freedom of speech, is proof America will be rebuilt in Obama's image.

FAUX,MSN,MSNBC,CNN,ABC,NBC,BBC and any other 24hr news channel is dubious to me.
YouTube is dubious also, but you can tell that person on the screen why you do, or don't believe the information and sure you can do that with TV but you get a corporate response back.

  30. Would those of you who do not get the H1N1 or any other kind of flu shot please wear a sign around your neck so I can avoid coming in contact with you for the next few months?
    Thank you for your consideration.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I hope its warm where you're head is.
Maybe we can wear a mask (because you're health is clearly much more important than mine)and not go to work (because we don't have any bills to pay).
On top of that we could have a "curfew", "street passes", "voluntary-->mandatory quarantine".
We could have some sweet "internment camps" and some of those nifty lil "stars" * so we can identify the "non-conformers" or the "infected" that sounds much spookier.
Go take the shot if it does not kill you, then you should be protected right???
So why would it effect you in any way if I don't have the shot?
Unless the shot weakens you're immune system in the first place.
Perhaps if its forced on you then it should be forced on me too right.
If you believe all the bs then go buy into it, but I will not be forced to poison myself because you and the extremely over-sized money hungry power drunk government says so.
Can any of you tell me why you get the flu from the flu shot?
Um because the flu virus is in the shot, so if you get the flu, you most likely got it from the shot and not from someone like me, you probably got me sick, shooting live unknown viruses in you're body.(you are the risk not me, I "MIGHT" catch the flu/h1n1 virus but you had the virus directly INJECTED into you without you're immune system processing it first).
That is very unsafe and irresponsible we don't come off an assembly line.
    We all are different.
vaccines could be the reason why autoimmune disorders are out of control(aids).
BTW if you got last years flu shot(in some areas) it was only good for the prior years flu virus IE unnecessary, ineffective, useless.
Keep in mind I'm not the one selling shots of unknown chemicals and contaminates, the only IMUNITY those shots offer is IMUNITY FOR THE BIG PHARMA COMPANYS THAT PRODUCED IT.
It took decades for the common flu to get passed our immune system, slowly changing rearranging naturally(not mutating) and this h1n1/avian virus "mutates" out of nowhere and is now a pandemic threat to humanity???national security???
In less than a year's time? Anyone take biology in high school???
Sounds like global warming, to that I say if mars and the other planets are warming at the same rate as earth, it must be E.T. driving those over-sized suv's just like us, that would explain the ford galaxy.(or its just that great big fireball we call it the sun cycling).
Astronomy who really needs it anyway right.

  34. When "the bowl," was built in 1954, it was referred to as the "Festivals Bowl at Libbey Park" or the "Ojai Festivals Bowl." Now we all know it's Libbey Bowl and Libbey Fountain, located in Libbey Park. If you change the name, you will have to put, "formerly Libbey Bowl," on every program, advertisement, press-release, etc., for the next ten years, or both locals and visitors will think this renamed bowl is some place else.

    ReplyDelete
  35. You know, OJai NEEDs money. Hello? We can put stipulations of the choice of names! They can't call it Qualcomm Bowl or something ugly like that. ITs ALREADY called Libbey Park, Libbey Bowl is redundant anyway. Change the name with stipulations to the name. By the way I have lived here close to 30 years

    ReplyDelete
  36. You have a point...but not granting naming rights does not rule out donations. Certainly there would have to be stipulations! Many donors are happy to be acknowledged with a plaque on a stone wall, or other gracious recognition. Some donor Angels prefer to be anonymous. Perhaps the donor will want to see the new bowl remain Libbey bowl, if that is the wish of most of the people of Ojai. Or perhaps they will come up with a beautiful new name, one we will all grow to love. But under present circumstances, I much prefer keeping the name "Libbey" as it connects us with the history and heritage of Ojai...

    ReplyDelete
  37. Just finished reading Pat Hartmann's passionate Letter in the 11/11 OVN's,"Objects to bowl naming rights."

    She writes:

"When you start erasing the names of our places, you start erasing our history and our gratitude to those who preserved so much of what Ojai is today..."

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'd rather have the bowl with someone elses name on it than not have it at all...or we could just let the old one fall down and call it the Libbey Hole.

    ReplyDelete
  39. If Ojai isn't a tourist destination what is it? A place where familys live for a great education for their children? Do we move here because the cost of living is cheap?

    ReplyDelete
  40. People come here for the singles scene.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I fought the Christmas crowds at Macy's in Ventura. It wasn't worth it. Everything was picked over , I found what I was looking for back in Ojai.

    ReplyDelete
  42. The fact is OVN, that we wouldn't know if saying Happy Holiday is taking the spirit out of Christmas because "Merry Christmas" is still very much alive and well. Happy Holdiay is just another term we use when necessary.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anyone offended by the words "Merry Christmas" must really pop a vessel when you tell them "you're in my prayers"---a common sentiment expressed by the well-meaning on condolence cards.
Though Jesus was born in the Fall and, more importantly, never suggested anybody celebrate his birthday with gaily-decorated trees and drunken shopping mall Santas, I'll revel in any holiday in which people smile more and/or attempt to act more civilly than they did the 11 months prior. (Besides, you gotta have a screw loose if you don't like all the twinkly lights)I'd close by saying "Have a nice day," but in the spirit of goodwill towards all, I wouldn't want my thin-skinned brethren thinking I was telling them what to do...

    ReplyDelete
  44. "Happy Merry" Christmas, Channuka (or however you spell it) Kwansa, Rammadan, Festivus, Winter Solstice, "Holidays". Or just Happy Holidays. Everyone will know what you mean and the spirit in which it is given. Geeez, Lighten UP!

  47. Being a part time resident in Ojai, and part time in Orange County, I have service from two different companies. My Orange County service is with A.T.T. and my Ojai service is with Time Warner. I had switched to ATT from Time Warner almost two years ago in OC and was disappointed I couldn't get it in Ojai. I prefer ATT 10 times over Time Warner. Hopefully they will get service in Ojai soon.

  49. Please bring back the NY Times crossword. Or at least tell us why you changed to the too-easy version.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The vote is strongly in favor of bringing back the NY Times puzzle, among the voters who have a preference.

    ReplyDelete
  51. OVN has plenty of local focus already. The dumbed-down puzzle doesn't make Ojai better; it just says we don't know when it's smart to import the better NYT crossword. Local Pixie tangerines, of course! But let's admit that NYT has a superior crossword. Yes, bring it back.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The poll question is worded so that 'no' is about excluding anything not about Ojai. By that standard, get rid of Sudoku because the name is Japanese and the numerals are Arabic. Oh, and get rid of reviews of movies not about Ojai, and Shakespeare, because he didn't set enough of his plays in Ojai. And stop taking advertising money from Ventura businesses.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yes, Ojai folk sure can be provincial. Anything from outside the valley is bad. Except TV. Funny how even those who object to the NY Times can't live without their network TV.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Last week's poll results showed bringing back NY Times puzzle as the winner by a huge margin. Today's paper still has the puzzle we don't want. I hope OVN will bring back the puzzle we want, or explain, soon.

  55. THey can't have the 4th of July parade on the 3rd! That is idiotic. I will never forget when they tried to make Halloween trick or treating on the day before Halloween because Halloween fell on a Sunday, it didn't work, people didn't get the memo. Who came up with this dumb idea that you can have the parade on the 3rd of July, what about the fireworks? Stupid stupid stupid.

  56. Badly written poll question. The issue is being legally in the US, not citizenship. Or is it intended to being misleading.

    ReplyDelete
  57. "Like with Arizona's new law, should California cops be able to demand proof of citizenship?"

Very badly written question, or is it deliberately misleading?

The AZ doesn't require proving citizenship, only evidence that you are here legally. That can be done with DL's, passports, etc. You don't have to be a US citizen to pass the muster in AZ.

    ReplyDelete
  58. You know, for all the pictures showing Obama with a Hitler mustache, guess who it is that wants to see the gestapo driving around spontaneously demanding people to show their identities or their passports or id's??? I think they have the Hitler mustache on the wrong people!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yeah because we don't have to show our papers or anything, oh wait we do.
I would say they got the hitler mustache on the right person.
It is kind of tough to put hitler mustaches on all the bankers and elites that are the shadow government(the one that actually makes the laws).

BTW:Why don't all you "do gooders" go down to mexico and try to become a legal citizen, better yet try to buy a house, see how well mexico treats you.
See if they will give you free heathcare or free school for your kids.
Mexico has some of the most droconian imigration and gun laws you could find, 2nd only to China.
The bottom line is mexico sold its people out and America inc. is not very far behind, the (NAU) north american union or spp act is still alive.

  65. The post is still delivered on the 3rd of July even though the desks are closed. It is pretty stupid to have the parade on the 3rd. Sunday would have been more appropriate and people can go to early morning church services instead. I can't believe this is happening. How are they going to deliver mail? This is so lame. Changing a national holiday celebration to make it easier for one religious group.

    ReplyDelete
  66. What ever happened to the separation of Church and State? By honoring Christians on the 4th of July you go against the fact that the people of the United States are bound by ideals and priciples and not by any one religion. If you disagree then you must feel that in order to be a true American you must be Christian which is wrong. You can be a Buddhist or a muslum and still be an American. This is what the founding fathers wished for us this is why we broke away from England not so we could start another little England away from home! To the last girl who spoke on Sidewalk talk, why don't you just get your family up early and go to sunrise services? The parade doesn't start til mid morning! Why force everybody to bend to your religious timetable when it isn't even necessary? I am boycotting this years 4th of July parade. Christians can have their own private celebration by themselves.

  69. To OVN, could we have a poll asking~ Do you think there should be an ordinance enforcing removal of cars when the street sweeper comes or face a fine and towing your car away? I have lived in Ojai for 30 years and I don't approve of threats of towing and fines for non removing of the cars using signage.. Everyone on my street pays a gardener to clean the street outside the house or does it themselves.

  70. Many of the sidewalk talks are ridiculous questions to ask people that are most likely totally ignorant to any kind of data on the issue. Nuclear reactors? Who aside from nuclear physicists would possibly have enough information to make an informed opinion? Anything that 99.999% of people on street say will be completely irrelevent. You may as well ask a plumber their opinion on brain surgery. All you get is people saying: "Nuclear is bad because of Japan. No reactors" ... or ... "Nuclear is good because need energy. Yes reactors."
